Mack loves not only punk music, but punk aesthetic, and she really wanted to bring her fantasy shoot to life. She had a go-to hair stylist (Nikki Scandalous of Scandalous Artistry) for the session in mind, who specializes in bold cuts and colors and collaborated with us for this photoshoot. I brought in a trusted makeup artist (Farah), and Mack styled her outfit.

We all met up at Scandalous Artistry to get Mack’s hair and makeup done, then walked over to one of my favorite studios to use in Orlando.

Mack gave me a lot of creative freedom. I knew she wanted to lean into punk, weird, fun shots, so that was my focus for the session (in addition to making sure she had a great time). I brought a mix of lights and canned atmosphere for a fog effect, as well as a giant chain to use as a prop. Nikki and Farah came along to assist and hype Mack up. She was a little nervous at first, but as we played some of her favorite bands’ music and gave her some posing direction she quickly got comfortable and leaned into the vision of the session. 

Once we got some solid shots using the chain along the brick wall of the studio, I showed her a few and she was so excited with how they came out. She pitched some ideas to take the vision up a notch as well. Nothing was too weird.

Then we moved over to the white wall area of the studio to bring in colored lights and a furniture like a chair and trash can to pose with. Toward the end of our studio reservation I wanted to try a new lighting setup I thought might work: light painting. I had my flash popping as Mack head banged and threw her hair around, and Farah helped waved a small continuous light around behind Mack to frame her. The idea worked out well and we got some really fun, creative shots that have a punk rock feel.

Then we walked back over to Nikki’s hair salon to got a few more photos. Mack had wanted to do something cool with smoke, so we set up a party light in the dark to get some unique images. The party light was essentially randomized color and movement, so moment to moment the shots looked very different from one another. They came out really moody and cinematic, and are some of my favorite shots to date.

We all had so much fun during this shoot, and Mack was over the moon with how everything came together. It was an honor collaborating with two other incredibly talented artists as well, I really couldn’t have done this without their help.
