Kendall owns several businesses, and his most recent venture has been opening a barbershop in Orlando, called District Gromming Company located in the Oviedo Mall. Though he had been in business for about two years already, he needed some professional photos and videos taken for the company’s social media and website. 

We scheduled a day and time where each of the barbers had several clients booked who were all okay with being in front of a camera. He primarily wanted candids of each of the barbers at work and shots with the business logo in view. He wasn’t too particular, but I typically shoot with variety in mind, so I made sure to get a mix of details, solos of each barber, smiling customers and employees, and wide shots of the whole space. I shot video clips both on my camera and phone for content options.

It was a relaxed environment, once the barbers got used to me being around with my camera and got into the flow of their work, I was able to move freely and get a nice mix of images. One of the considerations I had during the shoot was whether I wanted to use flash due to the mixed lighting in the room. But I ended up keeping the ambient light because their ring lights added a nice dimension. I rarely know with 100% certainty what lighting situation I’ll be entering, so it’s good to have backup gear just in case. 

Though I didn’t need to pose anyone in this session, the key to getting great shots is to be aware of what’s happening and quick to capture the moment. With any event, it’s key to be watching and anticipating what’s happening.
